ABOUT…well, what is there to say?
My name used to be “Hi Beautiful” or “Can I Take You to Dinner”, but somewhere along the way it changed to “What’s for Dinner” or “We’re Out of Toilet Paper”. After nine months, a harrowing NASCAR style race through rush hour traffic (even went on the sidewalk!) and a three day hospital visit, I became “Momma”. It’s my favorite name of all…..
Anyway, along with being a mommy, I happen to know a LOT about money. I’ve been an accountant/consultant for 20+ years and really, it’s a lot more exciting than it sounds. I’ve even testified at an embezzlement trial….ooohhhh, neato.
Over the years, I became really fascinated by grants. All over the internet, I saw tons of requests for personal grants – people looking for grants to pay off bills, buy a car, go to school, so on and so on. Then I saw the flip side….there are a lot of websites out there telling people that free money is being handed out by the bucketful. Like the generous souls that they are, you just send them a few bucks for “shipping” and they’ll share the information. Well, I started researching grants for individuals myself and confirmed that those companies are big fat scams.
The good news: I did discover a lot of real grants and related opportunities. I also found fun contests, business plan competitions and other cool ways to get money for various needs. I figured I’d share those programs here. If it’s interesting to me, maybe it will be interesting and useful to you!
