Grants Available for Business Owners

Applications are now being accepted from local business owners for this year’s Redevelopment Incentive Grants offered through the Eunice Main Street program.

Two different grants are available – a $10,000 grant for major projects and a $2,500 grant for minor projects.The grants, which require an equal match, are available to owners of downtown buildings or businesses.

To be eligible for a grant, a building must be within the downtown Main Street district, which is bounded by Second Street on the north, C.C. Duson Street on the east, Park Avenue on the south and Third Street on the west.

The building must also be used for commercial purposes and be at least 50 years old. The grants can be used for exterior or interior rehabilitation projects.

In addition, the proposed work must be approved by the local historic district commission and the Louisiana Main Street office, while also conforming to the guidelines set forth by the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.

To get an application, come by Joan McManus’ office in city hall at 300 S. Second St. For this year’s grant cycle, applications must be submitted to McManus office no later than June 12.If awarded a grant, the applicant has until April 30, 2010, to complete the work and submit the required reimbursement documentation.
