Rural Small Business Grants Available

There are currently rural small business grants available from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. They are accepting applications from farmers, agricultural producers and owners of rural small businesses to purchase renewable energy systems and make improvements for energy efficiency.

Specifically, Nevada is currently allocated $338,850 in grant funds and more than $1.5 million in loan guarantees under the USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program. Eligible projects include installing renewable energy systems such as wind turbines, solar, geothermal, biomass, anaerobic digesters, hydroelectric, and ocean, or hydrogen systems. Funding may also be used to purchase energy-efficient equipment, adding insulation, and improve heating and cooling systems.

Applications are due June 23 to the Nevada State Office. Applicants who want to get an assessment from the staff on their proposed projects should submit their applications by May 26 to Mark Williams, Energy Coordinator. The Guardian Life Insurance Company will make awards to 15 girls who demonstrate entrepreneurship; are taking the first steps toward financial independence; and make a difference in their schools and communities.

This is a yearly program, so if you missed it this year, be sure to bookmark it for next year!

This annual Guardian’s initiative is designed to reward the enterprising spirits of girls ages 12 to 18 –. Guardian awards prizes to 15 girls who demonstrate budding entrepreneurship; are taking the first steps toward financial independence; and make a difference in their schools and communities. Every year, prizes totaling $30,000 are granted to three top winners and 12 finalists each year, to further their entrepreneurialpursuits or save for college.

Child Care Provider Grant in North Dakota

The North Dakota Department of Commerce is accepting grant applications from child care providers. These grants are intended to assist North Dakota child care providers with infrastructure and technical assistance/business plans.

Eligibility
Profit, non-profit and public child care facilities that are licensed are eligible for the program. Faith based organizations are eligible but must follow all appropriate federal guidelines.

Match Requirement
There is a twenty five percent (25%) match requirement for the grant. For example, if the total project cost is $1,000; Commerce can provide up to $750 for the project. Match must be cash and can come from other public and private sources or a combination of public and private sources.

Eligible Uses/Maximum and Minimum Amounts
Maximum of $5,000 for egress windows or documented expansion of the facility and equipment for special needs children. To receive the $5,000 grant, facilities must provide $1,667 in matching funds from other private/public sources. Fences can be funded. However, there is a maximum amount of $3,000 that Commerce will allocate to fences.

Non-eligible use of funds includes all other uses.

Maximum of $10,000 for technical assistance and/or business plans. To receive the $10,000 grant, facilities must provide $3,334 in matching funds from other private/public sources.

Applicants can access both options to a maximum program amount of $15,000 per biennium. Applications submitted for less than $750 will not be considered.

The next deadline is March 31, 2010.

Business Grant in Rochester New York

The 2010 Rochester Regional Business Plan Contest is now open for applications from early stage companies, representatives of High Tech Rochester announced this week.

Eligible applicants are for-profit businesses with a scalable concept and high-growth potential, and with less than $250,000 in outside cash investment and less than $500,000 in cumulative revenue excluding research grants.

Companies must register and submit a contest application no later than March 5. Registration fee is $150 per company.

Contestants are eligible for $50,000 in cash and business service prizes, with a first-place cash prize of $25,000.

Five finalists will be selected April 9, and the awards luncheon is April 30.

Business Grant Available in Binghamton New York

If you would like to start a new business in Binghamton, New York, you should consider entering the business plan competition offered by the Binghamton Local Development Corporation and the Entrepreneurial Assistance Program. This is the second annual contest and a $5,000 grant is ready to be awarded.

Grant to Open a Restaurant in Iowa

The Upper Iowa University is currently accepting grant applications from entrepreneurs who are interested in starting up, managing and operating a sports lounge in Fayette, Iowa.

The two-story restaurant and sports lounge will be located in a newly constructed, University-owned property on Fayette’s Main Street. In addition to a $40,000 cash award from the UIBD grant, the successful applicant is eligible for additional assistance in the form of rent abatement.

The application deadline for this opportunity is March 1, 2010 BUT anyone interested in obtaining a grant to open or operate a business in Fayette should still contact this program director because there will be other grants available.

Start Up Business Grants

The South Bay Center for Counseling in El Segundo, California has mini-grants available to help start up your business. They also have micro-loans of $1,000 and small business loans up to $5,000 depending on cash flow and other criteria.

Another big help are their small business development training and support services. Part of the training even includes developing your business plan!
