Making Some Tweaks!

Hi everyone!

I’m trying to make some adjustments to the site that allow me to find and post information more quickly – sort of a real-time update of available grant programs as they are announced. The posts might not be as pretty, but the goal is to get you more information, more quickly.

So I’ll be fine-tuning things over the next few days and hopefully we’ll see some great results!!

Hi everyone! You may have noticed that I haven’t posted for a bit. I am so sorry about that. I’ve been really busy in my other life as an accountant (it’s tax season!) and am trying desperately to get caught up.

I’ve got a really cool plan underway for Momma Knows Money and I think you’ll all love it, so don’t give up on me yet!

Hi everyone! You might notice that things are changing just a little around here. I’m trying to re-organize the grants and resources I find into categories so it’s easier to find the information you need. So far, these are the categories I’m using:

Art Grants
Business Grants
Education Grants
Healthcare Grants
Home Grants

If you have any suggestions for categories, or other ideas for how this site can better help you, let me know! For example, how about a “Green Living” category for organic farming, farmers markets, solar energy, etc.?

Why I Hate Chase Bank

Yep, I said it. I HATE Chase Bank. Here’s why:

In September I made a deposit to my account. In October there was a withdrawal from my account for the exact same amount. At this time, the bank was Washington Mutual.

Now, since they hadn’t bothered to notify me of this reversal, I unknowingly overdrafted the account. Then I started getting collection calls from Chase since they had just completed the WaMu takeover. I reviewed my account activity and there was no way I made or authorized that withdrawal. I asked Chase for more information. They couldn’t track the transaction but confirmed that they had not taken it out of one account and posted it to any of my other accounts (yeah, no kidding – I could tell that too). They were also able to confirm that it was an in-branch transaction. Also interesting since I never go inside the bank.

I asked for a copy of the transaction. Now comes the zinger. I received a copy of the transaction and guess what the copy was… It wasn’t a copy at all, rather a printout saying “Sorry, we don’t have a copy of the transaction.” I waited a WEEK to get a copy of a blank page.

In the meantime I’m still getting collection calls on the account and they’re threatening to write it off to bad debt. Mind you, I haven’t made a deposit yet because I’m afraid they’re going to steal more of my money. I explained the situation to no less than six representatives and filed a fraud complaint with them, asking them to substantiate the transaction.

It’s a month later, I still have no resolution, I haven’t received my deposit back and I’m STILL getting collection calls from Chase. I’m going to make a deposit today, just enough money to keep them from calling me.

Here’s what I have to say in closing:

Dear Chase Bank,

I hope you choke on the government bailout dollars that you’ve so eagerly suckled from the teat of the American taxpayer. Taking it out of both pockets – taxes on one side, and directly out of my account on the other side, what a way to live.

Don’t you think I have enough to do without tracking down YOUR mistake? Perhaps if I were an incompetent, moronic boob, I too could get a 25 BILLION dollar bailout. Do you know how much good I could do with that kind of money? I sure wouldn’t be stealing even more from my customers, that’s for sure. Or at least I would have the decency to buy them flowers after I (ahem) them.

Wow! Yesterday we had the highest number of visitors to the website so far! YAY! I guess that means the word is getting out about what I’m doing here. What am I doing here? Hopefully I’m providing some helpful information for you. It can be really hard to track down information about grants and assistance, especially when you’ve got other worries on your mind. Hopefully I can be like a friend to you – here when you need me We can all use a friend, right?

Surprising Findings About Grants for Individuals

You know, I am really surprised that I have only gotten three requests to help people find grants in the past couple weeks. Blown away actually. Here I am, sitting at my desk waiting to help people, and nobody’s showing up. What if I charged a little fee to offset the time it takes me to do the research? I wonder if more people would ask for help then, because it wouldn’t be too good to be true? Let me know, because I really could use a few bucks

So anyway, here I am. You’d better ask for research assistance now, before I raise the price

So I’m thinking that my blog is a little impersonal. I work a lot at getting grants and other money making ideas up here, but there’s not much interaction ya know. Not much yappity-yap going on and I’m going to work on that.

Right this minute, I’m in a little bit of heaven because daddy took the kids out for a few hours. I think this is the first time the house has been quiet in six months. I practically don’t know what to do with myself, but a glass of wine is probably in order!

Thinking back, I started MommaKnowsMoney because I’m in constant pursuit of real ways to make money online and I know a lot of other people are too so I figured sharing is nice – or maybe Barney the purple dinosaur has taken over my mind.

Why try so hard to earn money online? Look, I’m not lazy, far from it and I bet you aren’t lazy either. I rarely sleep and spend my time taking care of my kiddos, working, cleaning house, cooking and all that. I live in a rural area and due to the crap housing market (underwater on my house 50% – thanks mortgage meltdown) I can’t sell and move where there are more jobs. If I could even get a job in this economy, I’d have a minimum two hours a day just for commuting time. So that’s at least 10 hours/day that I’d have to pay for child care on top of all the other bills and expenses. Working online saves me from the commute and I can save the $100/day child care expense. Too bad I don’t have an extra bedroom in the house and I’d just have a live-in, but life didn’t go that way.

Anyway, I’m betting you’re in a similar boat. Or you’re sick of working at your job. Or you need a little extra to make ends meet. Hopefully, I can share some good ideas with you and have a little fun along the way.

If there’s a question you have or something you’d like to see here, let me know! Anyway, enough of my babbling, I’ve got to get my drink on before the family gets back!
