Foreclosure Help

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Hi,

I am located in Waukesha County, WI & my home is foreclosing. I am a single mother & was in the hospital & off of work for 4 months. The bank began the foreclosure process after 4 missed payments. I have been trying to find help ever since to save my home & nobody has helped me so far, hope you can. Thanks.

Wendy

  1. Hi Wendy,

The first thing you need to do is see if your home is eligible for the “Making Home Affordable” Program. This program is for home loans that have been guaranteed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, and the website has a way for you to contact them to find out: http://www.makinghomeaffordable.gov/

Depending on your income, you may qualify for legal services with Legal Action of Wisconsin, Inc: http://www.badgerlaw.net/Home/PublicWeb/LAW/LAWLegalServicesPage

Also, you should call your local 2-1-1 line right away. Either dial 2-1-1 or (262) 547-3388. This is a free service that can connect you with more resources in your community.

You can go to this page on NeighborWorks America to find free foreclosure counseling services in your area (trying to help you keep your home) http://www.findaforeclosurecounselor.org/network/nfmc_lookup/

And if you haven’t done this yet, contact your bank and explain the situation. If you have income now, they should be able to offer you some sort of forbearance agreement to help you get caught up.

Best wishes to you and your family.
