Looking for Business Grant

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

My husband lost his job 1 1/2 years ago and has been unable to find employment. We wuld like to start a lawn care business for him but are unable to get a loan right now. Do you know of any small business grants that would help him start his business in Roanoke, Va. Thanks.

  1. The City of Roanoke has several grant and assistance programs for businesses. You will have the best opportunity to participate in these programs if your business is located in either of their Enterprise Zones.

Enterprise Zone One A: Is centered along the main east-west tracks of the Norfolk Southern Railway,

Enterprise Zone Two and the 581/Hershberger Subzone include the East Gate residential area, parts of Hollins Road North, the Roanoke Centre for Industry & Technology, Statesman Industrial Park, and the west side of Interstate 81 across from the Roanoke Regional Airport.

You can learn more about the grants and programs here: http://www.roanokeva.gov/85256A8D0062AF37/vwContentByKey/N254FQP2880LBASEN

For information about what is needed to start your business (licenses, permits, etc.)you can refer to the Virginia Department of Business Assistance: http://www.dba.virginia.gov/workforce_development_incentives.shtml
