Need Grant for Car Payment

I am the executive director for a non-profit dental program in Victorville, CA and am wondering if you can help me (not the program) in payinhg some of my bills. In particular, a car payment. I use the car for the non-profit and the grants that I have don’t pay for transportation. I know it is lame to ask but what the heck. I am always asking for someone else, why not me now?

Community Garden Grant in California

Lake of the Sky Garden Club has grant funds available for community related garden projects. The club’s goals are to promote an interest in gardening, with particular emphasis on the problems at high altitude, to support charitable, educational and scientific works, as well as to initiate and participate in beautification and developmental gardening projects in the North Tahoe region.

The South Bay Center for Counseling in El Segundo, California has mini-grants available to help start up your business. They also have micro-loans of $1,000 and small business loans up to $5,000 depending on cash flow and other criteria.

Another big help are their small business development training and support services. Part of the training even includes developing your business plan!

Artists Grant

The Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative is accepting applications for their new grant program until February 28, 2010.

The Direct-to-Artists Grants will award money to individual artists or collaborative groups living and working in Santa Barbara, to fund projects. There are four artistic categories: visual arts, performing arts, literary arts, and film and multimedia arts.

Two grants up to $1,500 each will be awarded in each category. To apply, each artist must be registered with the SB Arts Collaborative website, which is designed as a forum for artists within Santa Barbara to communicate and collaborate on topics relating to their artwork.

Government Grants for Green Business

The State of California Employment Training Panel (ETP) and the California Energy Commission (Energy Commission) have entered a partnership to promote skills development and career advancement in the state’s emerging green economy.

Toward this partnership, they are offering grants to businesses to develop and implement training programs for green jobs.

Project Targeting
Training projects should target placement for unemployed workers, or upgrading the skills of incumbent workers, in the following areas:
1. Jobs that reduce energy or water use in the building trades (e.g., retrofitting, green plumbing, efficient lighting manufacturing)

2. Jobs that produce or transmit renewable energy (e.g., solar panel manufacturing, smart grid installation)
The focus will be on jobs in the service sector to include designing, installing, retrofitting, operating and maintaining green technology systems. Training for jobs in the manufacturing sector will also be funded, but green technology must be the company’s primary and ongoing product line. All jobs must be for workers with payroll reported in California.

Eligible Employer: Employers whose companies are not green in their primary core or business will not be considered as candidates for these funds. No exclusion for non-profit employers and no requirement for out-of-state competition (as compared to the core program where funding is tied to collection of the Employment Training Tax). Public and private schools, and training agencies, must satisfy certification standards in accordance with the core program. Additional reporting and recordkeeping requirements may apply for ARRA purposes.

Projects will be funded at a minimum of $75,000 and a maximum of $1,000,000.

I couldn’t find an application deadline, so if you’re interested, you’d better hurry. I’ll update the post when I find out the deadline.

Tattoo Removal Grant in San Jose

The Clean Slate Program removes tattoos from gang involved and at-risk youth of San José, who have found tattoos to be a barrier in furthering themselves through education and/or employment. They also assist youth with educational opportunities, job development life skills, counseling and information on how to utilize community resources.

Criteria

Must be between the ages of 14 and 25
Must be a San José Resident
Tattoos must be on hands, wrists, neck or face
Must live a gang free lifestyle

Cash Assistance for Victims of Violent Crime

The Victim Compensation Program (CalVCP) can help pay unreimbursed expenses that result when a violent crime occurs. Victims of crime who have been injured or have been threatened with injury may be eligible for help from CalVCP. CalVCP may assist with the cost of medical and dental treatment, mental health services, funeral and burial expenses, home security, residential crime scene cleanup and emergency relocation.

If a person is disabled as a result of the crime, CalVCP also assists with wage loss, dependent support loss, job retraining and home or vehicle modifications.

CalVCP can help pay moving expenses – such as first and last month’s rent, deposits and temporary lodging – if a victim needs to relocate for their own safety or emotional well-being.

Emergency Awards

Victims can request an emergency award in certain situations. Emergency awards are made based on substantial hardship and the immediate need for payment. Emergency awards are most often obtained to cover relocation or funeral/burial expenses. You must indicate this on your application in the emergency award section.

Tattoo Removal in California

As you may have read in my earlier post today, a lot of people stop by my blog looking for tattoo removal grants so I’m doing a little extra research on it.

There are several clinics in California that offer tattoo removal for free or low cost. One of those clinics is in Hollywood, CA. It’s called the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic and they have several health programs including tattoo removal.

Grants for Candidate Physical Ability Test in California

The California Fire Foundation offers grants to offset the fees of the CPAT to candidates with demonstrable financial hardship.

To qualify for a grant, you must provide documentation demonstrating that you meet either one of the criteria:
1. You or your family are receiving public assistance from the Aid to Families with Dependent Children or Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (AFDC/TANF) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or have certification from the California Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
2. You meet the following 2009-2010 income standards as shown on the grant application.

The grant will provide for the required pre-test program. The pre-test program is two orientation sessions within 8 weeks of the scheduled test and two timed practice runs within 30 days of the scheduled test. If the grantee fails the CPAT test, and has not attended all four required sessions of the pre-test program, they will not qualify for another grant.
