Transportation Grants for Multiple Myeloma Patients

CancerCare has launched a “Door to Door” program for patients with multiple myeloma. This program provides individual grants of up to $600 yearly to multiple myeloma patients. The grants is for covering transportation costs such as gasoline and taxi, bus or train fare to and from medical care.

The program is funded in part by a generous grant from Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company. CancerCare is a national non-profit organization based in New York City that provides free support services to people affected by cancer.

To receive a Door to Door transportation grant, patients must meet certain eligibility criteria and complete an application form. To apply, call 1-800-813-HOPE (4673).

Help With Care for Severely Ill Children

The Adirondack Community Trust administrates the Christopher Emmett Hallowell Fund. This is an endowment fund established to support families caring for severely ill children and young adults in the Adirondack Region of New York State. The fund provides financial assistance for incidental and unexpected expenses.

Financial Assistance for those with Leukemia and Lymphoma

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society provides some financial assistance for patient’s under a doctor’s care with a confirmed diagnosis. Assistance funds are provided solely by public contributions and are subject to availability.

If you are in need, you can contact the local Society chapter, or go to the main website and fill out an application. There are other programs offered, such as co-pay assistance.

Insure Kids Now! is a national initiative that links families to low cost or free health insurance for children under 18.

If your kids do not have health insurance, they are likely to be eligible, even if you are working and even if you have applied in the past and been turned down.

Your state (and every state) has its own program, with its own eligibility rules, but in many states, uninsured children 18 years old and younger, whose families earn up to $44,500 a year (for a family of four) are eligible for free or low-cost health insurance that pays for

This is an awesome program! The American Kidney Fund offers grants for kidney patients in the United States. These grants can cover health insurance premiums, Medicare Part D expenses, and other medical expenses not covered by insurance.

Grants Available for Cancer Patients

Traci’s Hope is accepting applications for grants to help patients in Broome and Tioga counties in New York.

A patient who is under a doctor’s care can qualify for up to $500 a year for as many as five years.The organization, which holds regular fundraising events, has enough money on hand to fund at least 30 to 40 grants.

The grants are intended to help financially struggling patients meet everyday expenses, ranging from groceries to heating bills to doctor’s bills.Application forms are online at the organization’s Web site, www.tracishope.com. They are also available at Broome Oncology offices at Wilson Square in Johnson City.

Family Respite Care Grant for Alzheimer’s

AFA’s Family Respite Care Grant helps alleviate the cost of respite care for families caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Funds may be used for in-home care, adult day programs or other types of respite.

Individuals may only apply for this grant through one of AFA’s participating nonprofit member organizations, and AFA will only accept applications mailed from that member organization’s office. Applicants must meet specific requirements.

This grant is offered in the spring and fall of each year; for consideration, applications must be postmarked by:

Health Care Expense Assistance

UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation (UHCCF) announced that new grants are available to help children who need critical health care treatment, services or equipment not covered or not fully covered by their parents’ health benefit plans.

UHCCF provides grants to families to help pay for child health care services such as speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy sessions, prescriptions, and medical equipment such as wheelchairs, orthotics and eyeglasses.

Parents and legal guardians may apply for grants of up to $5,000 for child medical services and equipment by completing an online application. Tax-deductible donations can also be made online.

To be eligible for grants, children must be 16 years of age or younger. Families must meet economic guidelines, reside in the United States and be covered by a commercial health benefit plan.

Economic Relief Grants for Individuals

The Mayer Foundation was incorporated in March 2002 as a New York nonprofit corporation. The core mission of the Foundation is as follows:

to make economic relief grants to needy individuals who are distressed or suffering as a result of poverty, low income or lack of financial resources, including as a result of natural or civil disasters, or from temporary impoverishment, loss of employment, death or incapacity of a family wage earner or damage to home and property; to provide health care to those who cannot afford health care or whose health insurance or financial resources are insufficient to cover medical needs;
to make grants to other IRS 501(C)(3) organizations for educational, literary, cultural, humanitarian, scientific, health-care related and other charitable purposes; and
to award scholarship benefits and student aid to high school, college or graduate school students to enable the recipients to complete an undergraduate or graduate education in the field of their choice at the college or graduate school of their choice.

Grant sizes vary but generally range from $2,500 to $5,000 per grant.
