Home rehab grants are now available in the City of Homestead, Florida. There are also grants available for businesses.

The agency has set aside $150,000 for a residential façade program. Low- and moderate-income applicants can receive up to $10,000 for exterior work such as painting, door and window replacement, and the installation of driveways and hurricane shutters.

Another $150,000 has been budgeted for the Emergency Home Repair Grant Program.

Qualifying applicants can get up to $10,000 for work such as electrical and plumbing repairs, structural repairs on roofs, porches and foundations, treatment of pest infestations, removal of hazardous materials, and connecting to city sewer lines.

Landscape grants, up to $5,000 for those who qualify, can be used to buy plants, palms, trees and landscaping equipment, remove asphalt, install irrigation systems, and enclose dumpsters.

Residents also can use the money to fix features that don’t meet city codes.

Home Rehab Grants Available in Illinois

Rock Island Economic Growth Corporation is accepting applications from March 29 – April 16, 2010 for the Single-Family Owner Occupied Rehab (SFOOR) program. This program provides financial assistance to Rock Island homeowners needing to bring their homes up to minimum housing quality standards.

You can get an application at the GROWTH office, 120 16 ½ Street, Rock Island, IL or visit their website at www.LiveRI.com. Applications must be completed and returned prior to 5 p.m. on April 16, 2010.

Applications will be screened for eligibility within five days of receiving the application. These grants are awarded on a lottery basis, to keep the selection fair. Notices will be sent informing applicants if they will be submitted into the lottery drawing, or a reason for denial of the application. At least twenty homeowners will receive assistance; however a total of thirty names will be drawn in case any of the first twenty do not meet the full eligibility requirements.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

- The home must be located within the city limits of Rock Island.

- The home must be a single-family owner-occupied residence.

- The homeowner must have owned the home for a minimum of one year at the time of the application.

- All property taxes must be current now and have been current prior to the end of the previous year.

- The home can not be purchased on contract.

- The homeowner’s insurance must be current and have had no lapses for the prior year.

- The home can not have received prior rehab assistance from GROWTH or Project NOW’s HOME, Housing Trust Fund (HTF), or SFOOR programs.

- This program is designed to bring the home up to general housing quality standards including health, safety, and code violations as determined by GROWTH’s Rehab Specialist.

- The maximum allowable improvement amount is $24,999 as determined by GROWTH’s Rehab Specialist. Properties requiring in excess of $24,999 are deemed ineligible to participate.

- A credit report will be requested prior to the home inspection.

- Household income must be 80% or below the area median income*

4 persons $49,300 8 persons $65,100

Homeowners in Machesney Park can apply for a grant to pay for upgrades for their houses. The village’s HomeForward program got a grant from the Illinois Housing Development Authority and are passing those funds along to the homeowners.

I have a home in Harker Heights Texas in poor condition because of my limited income and health problems . I can not afford to do anything . The roof is leaking real bad and it has no insulation ,air conditioning etc. I can continue to live in it if I can get the roof fixed, I have tried the city of Harker Heights they have already given all the grants out. I have tried Habitat For Humanity and they don’t assistance this way which leads me to searching on-line.It is how I have reached you. I have pictures but I am running into a lot of fake sites.

I live in Marion,Ohio i am currently looking for help in the form of a Grant to do some Home Improvements i need a New Roof and Windows and Siding need to be replaced on my Home and Garage i am not currently working do to the Economy hardly anyone here is hiring my Husband works but we are not able to afford needed work and our credit is shot can not get a Bank Loan We are not Elderly,Disabled or Low Income so we don’t Qualify for any Government Programs i have paid numerous fees to sites that offer Grants to Individuals only to hit a deadend or Be asked to pay almost $400.00 to get the help we need i have been trying for over a year now with no help i have called our local offices and talked to my State reps no answers as to how to get the help

Flood Recovery Program

The federal government has awarded funds to help meet the needs of people affected by the terrible floods and storms that occurred during the summer of 2008 in a 30 county area of Southern Wisconsin. These funds will help homeowners repair their homes and provide other resources to help them on their road to recovery.

The Wisconsin Conference of The United Methodist Church was selected by the State of Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services to administer and distribute $6 million dollars in Federal Social Services Block Grant funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – Administration for Children and Families, Office of Community Service.

Emergency Home Repair Grants

The City of Chicago offers an Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP).
EHAP provides grants to low-income homeowners to repair roofs, porches and heating units that are in serious disrepair. Owners of 1-4 unit properties in Chicago must live on the property and have no other means to pay for the repairs. If the property is sold within one year of the repairs, the City requires the homeowner to repay the grant amount.

Repairs are made seasonally on a first-come; first-served basis as follows:

Heating Unit Repair/Replacement:
From November 1 through March 31, improvements are limited to the repair and replacement of heating units. Applicants must bring required documents listed below to the Department of Housing to apply.

Roof and Porch Repair/Replacement:
Applicants must call Chicago’s City Services at 311 beginning January 1 of each program year to be placed on the intake list for services. The Department of Housing will accept applicants based on available funding. Roof and porch repair and replacement will be performed between April 1 and October 31.
