The Illinois Military Family Relief Fund (IMFRF), provides monetary grants to families of Illinois National Guard members and Illinois residents serving in the U.S. Armed Forces Reserve components who were called to active duty as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

IMFRF grants are intended to help service members and their families defray the costs of food, housing, utilities, medical services, and other expenses that become difficult to afford when a wage-earner has temporarily left civilian employment to be placed on active military duty.

Homes for Veterans

Homes For Our Troops raises donations of money, building supplies and labor to build homes. When a home is completed, it is given to a veteran who has been severely injured or disabled while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. All services are provided at no cost to the veteran.

They have 30 homes in the build process for 2009! What an awesome organization. Apply for assistance or find out how you can donate at their website.

U.S. VETS is dedicated to helping homeless and at-risk veterans, and a nationally recognized leader in the field of service delivery to veterans.

They are the largest provider of housing, counseling, employment and training assistance in the country.

If you are a veteran in need of assistance, please contact them. If they don’t have a program in your area, they will help you find help.

Education Money for Veterans

The Post-9/11 GI Bill is for individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill. The Post-9/11 GI Bill will become effective for training on or after August 1, 2009. This program will pay eligible individuals:

tuition & fees directly to the school not to exceed the maximum in-state tuition & fees at a public Institution of Higher Learning.
a monthly housing allowance based on the Basic Allowance for Housing for an E-5 with dependents at the location of the school.
an annual books & supplies stipend of $1,000 paid proportionately based on enrollment
a one-time rural benefit payment for eligible individuals

Grants for Children of National Guard and Reserve Families

If you or your spouse are in the National Guard or Reserves and are deployed overseas, Our Military Kids can help pay for sports, fine arts and tutoring programs for your children.

Who can receive a grant?

Children aged 3 years through 12th grade of National Guard or Reserve military personnel either deployed overseas or severely injured may apply.

The grant amount is up to $500 per child.

Financial Assistance for Soldiers and Their Dependents

The following categories are eligible for assistance from Army Emergency Relief

Soldiers on extended active duty and their dependents.
Members of the Reserve Components of the Army (National Guard under Title 10 authority and Army Reserve) who are on continuous active duty for more than 30 consecutive days and their eligible family members.
Soldiers retired from active duty because of longevity or physical disability or retired upon reaching age 60 (Reserve Components) and their eligible family members.
Widows, widowers and orphans of Soldiers who died while on active duty or after retirement as cited above.
