Educational Excellence grants are available to those who have ties to tobacco farming and are enrolled in an accredited institution.

The Southern Ohio Agricultural and Community Development Foundation will award 10 Educational Excellence grants in the amount of $7,500. The grants are competitive and selection will be based on essay questions, community and school activities and grades.

Those eligible include tobacco quota owners, quota owners/growers, or grower/tenants of Farm Service Agency (FSA) record in any single crop year from 1997 through 2004 and their immediate family dependents. The applicant must be enrolled at an accredited institution as a full-time sophomore, junior or senior in 2010-11 and be seeking an associates or bachelor degree.

The application deadline is February 15, 2010

Hi
I live in Marion,Ohio i am currently looking for help in the form of a Grant to do some Home Improvements i need a New Roof and Windows and Siding need to be replaced on my Home and Garage i am not currently working do to the Economy hardly anyone here is hiring my Husband works but we are not able to afford needed work and our credit is shot can not get a Bank Loan We are not Elderly,Disabled or Low Income so we don’t Qualify for any Government Programs i have paid numerous fees to sites that offer Grants to Individuals only to hit a deadend or Be asked to pay almost $400.00 to get the help we need i have been trying for over a year now with no help i have called our local offices and talked to my State reps no answers as to how to get the help

Free Child Care for Unemployed

Child Focus in Cincinnati, Ohio is providing free babysitting services for eligible families. Their program will watch children from the ages of 6-weeks-old to 5-years-old while the parent looks for a job or goes to a job interview.

The program provides support for families in the Workforce One Center. Parents must complete some registration forms and provide forms of identification.

Home Repair Grant

The Northwest Ohio Development Agency makes grants for emergency home repair.

Emergency Home Repair Grants normally use the following guidelines:

Grants will be provided on a first-come first-served basis, based on completed file.
Applicants for Emergency Home Repair Grants cannot make more than 150% above the federal poverty guidelines and in some cases not more than 35% of Area Median Income (AMI).
Consumers must receive at least three bids on any work to be completed, unless otherwise approved by NODA’s Chief Operating Officer.
Work must be done by a licensed and insured contractor in the State of Ohio.
Maximum Emergency Home Repair Grants are granted once in a person’s lifetime and are limited to $5,000.00 per grant.
Repair grants are given on one to four unit properties that are owner-occupied only.
All grants must be approved by the Loan/Grant Review Committee.
In order to qualify for an emergency repair grant, all needed repairs must comply with the emergency repair guideline sheets included in the attachments.
Grants require no pay back and have no deed restrictions attached to them.

Homeownership Grants in Ohio

Ohio Housing Finance Agency has a Down Payment Assistance Grant program. Eligible borrowers participating in the First-Time Homebuyer Program, Target Area Loan Program, and Ohio Heroes Program can use the grant to greatly reduce the out-of-pocket expenses associated with buying a home.

If you qualify for one of OHFA’s home loan programs, you can choose to take advantage of the Down Payment Assistance Grant.

OHFA will issue a grant in an amount up to 2.5% of your home’s purchase price.
You can use the grant to pay for the down payment, closing costs, or other prepaid expenses incurred prior to closing. Keep in mind that while the grant will greatly reduce your expenses, you may still be required to pay for some costs out of pocket.
If you take advantage of the grant, your mortgage interest rate will be .5% higher than OHFA’s current mortgage rates.

Grant to Start a Home Child Care Center

The Pike County Community Action Committee is offering grant opportunities for those interested in starting a Type B home-based child care business in Pike, Ross, Scioto or Jackson counties.

Those who complete the program will be eligible for grant dollars to start and operate their business. Program requirements include receiving financial literacy, business and family child care training and completing the process for child care certification. Those qualifying for grant assistance also must be at or below 100 percent of the federal poverty income guidelines, which for a family of two is $14,570 and a family of four is $22,050.

Lead Paint Removal Grant

The City of Cleveland, Department of Public Health is accepting applications from homeowners or landlords for their Lead Safe Living, Lead Hazard Control Grant Program. The program provides resources for reducing or removing the amount of lead in the home. This can include removing or fixing lead paint issues, and doing minor repair work. The home must be in Cleveland or Cuyahoga County. The Department of Health has a very comprehensive, easy to understand brochure about this program.
