Emergency Grants for Kidney Patients

The National Kidney Foundation of Utah & Idaho provides help for kidney patients through its Patient Emergency Services program. Patients in need receive assistance grants to help pay for food, rent, utilities, transportation, vehicle maintenance, medical insurance, medications and doctors bills. The Foundation also supplies each Dialysis Center throughout the states of Utah & Idaho an Emergency Patient Fund to assist with emergency needs.

Down Payment Grant

The “Own in Sandy Program” is an effort by Sandy City, Utah and the Sandy City Redevelopment Agency to stimulate the local economy by creating new jobs through the construction of new homes which have not been lived in that are currently on the market within Sandy City.

The program will additionally, increase the opportunity for qualified home owners to purchase existing new homes which have not been lived in that are currently on the market. Persons requiring primary residential loans and that meet specific guidelines can qualify for a $5,000.00, zero interest loan, to assist with the purchase of the home. This loan becomes a grant after the owner has lived in the home for a consecutive three (3) year period.

“Own in Sandy” loans can only be used at the time of closing for a down payment, for closing costs or a principal reduction in purchase price.

Grants for Historic Buildings and Homes

Old Town grants remain available. People must apply for them, and the city’s Historic Preservation Board decides whether to award grants.

The program allows the grant money to be used for improvements of historic buildings and houses, and the property owners must match the money City Hall puts up. The grants are given out all year.

Some of the improvements that are eligible for grants include foundation work, outside doors, porch repairs, siding and outside trim. Upgrades that are not eligible include inside remodeling, additions, repairs of features that are not original and signs.

The grants are capped at 50 percent of the estimate of the work. People who receive the grants must pay back all or some of the money if the property is sold within five years of receiving a grant, with the entire grant being repaid if the property is sold within a year and partial amounts of the grant being repaid if it is sold between two and five years.

What is the $6,000 Home Run Grant?

The Home Run Grant is a mortgage assistance program that grants $6,000 to home buyers who purchase a newly-constructed, never-occupied primary, single-family residence in Utah. The Home Run Grant is funded by the Housing Relief Restricted Special Revenue Fund, established by Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, the Utah State Legislature, and Utah Housing Corporation.

When is the Home Run Grant program being launched?

The governor has signed the bill into law and the program is now launched.

Who is eligible to receive a $6,000 Home Run Grant?

Home buyers must meet the following income restrictions:
- Single person, $75,000
- Married couple, $150,000
- If more than one unmarried person is taking title to the Eligible Home, each such single person is subject to the $75,000 income limit.
Home buyers must occupy the purchased home as a primary, permanent residence no later than 30 days after closing.
If home buyers need a mortgage loan to purchase the home, the loan must be a fixed interest rate, amortizing mortgage loan with a term of 30 years or less. Cash buyers can also qualify by contacting Utah Housing Corporation directly.

How does a home buyer get the Home Run Grant funds?

To get a first-come, first-served written commitment for the Grant, home buyers must:

Enter into a written contract to purchase a newly-constructed, single –family home.
Contact a lender to obtain final underwriting approval for any needed financing.
Have their mortgage lender furnish required documentation to Utah Housing Corporation for the Grant.
Utah Housing will reserve the $6,000 Grant for 30 days.
