Fellowships for Artists
There are lots of artist fellowship programs offered across the United States, generally by arts councils. The North Dakota Council on the Arts offers artist fellowships up to $2,500 each year. The 2010 fellowships are offered for Music and Literature (the disciplines change each year).
Grants for Artists
A Strategic Opportunity Stipend (SOS) of up to $600 is available to Long Island artists and musicians living in Nassau and Suffolk counties. The grant is designed to help individual artists of all disciplines take advantage of unique opportunities that will significantly benefit their work or career development.
Playwriting Grants
The VSA arts Playwright Discovery Program invites middle and high school students to take a closer look at the world around them, examine how disability affects their lives and the lives of others, and express their views through the art of playwriting.
Screenwriting Grants
The San Francisco Film Society and the Kenneth Rainin Foundation Filmmaking Grants support films that through plot, character, theme or setting significantly explore human and civil rights, antidiscrimination, gender and sexual identity and other urgent social justice issues of our time.
Crazyhorse Fiction Prize
Crazyhorse offers the Crazyhorse Fiction Prize for a single short story and the Lynda Hull Memorial Poetry Prize for a single poem. The competition is open, the prize awards are currently $2000 for each genre, and the winning poem and piece of prose are published in Crazyhorse.
National Endowment for the Arts Grants for Writers
The National Endowment for the Arts offers fellowships in prose (fiction and creative nonfiction) or poetry to published creative writers. Fellowships enable recipients to set aside time for writing, research, travel, and general career advancement.
